wow, your partisan, anti-UNP stance amazes me! Yes, SWRD, the racist responsible for much of today's problems is a patriot, but great leaders like the Senanayakas and Mr. Kotalawala have been nicely forgotten!
Annon Mahatthoyo,
Kotalawala karapu great wada ekak dekak wath iyamuko balanna. Gama wate hitiya ganunge bada loku karapu ekada great wade... Hik hik...

I agree that Ven. Kiribathgoda Nanananda himi is a patriotic monk. In the mean time he is great spiritual leader of our time as well. Sadu Sadu...
SWRD changed the official language from English which was spoken by a handful of "Colombo elites", to Sinhala which was spoken by a majority of Sri Lankans, with reasonable use of Tamil.
Check this video.
He brought in Sinahala as the official language. What he removed was not Tamil, but English.
Ever since, the "elites" call him a racist.
I personally don't think that SWRD was a racist. In my view, he was rather an opportunist.
He pretended to have converted to Buddhism though he remained a Christian at heart; He also pretended to promote Sinhala though he never learned to write in it, and so on. All he really wanted was to come to power.
As far as him doing away with English - which by the way seems to be the pet aversion of some people here while being shameless enough to keep writing in it - you would do well to remember that what Mr. B did away with was the rural children's chance to learn it. If not, should all his family members continue to use English as their preferred tongue while preaching to the others to do otherwise.
For example, when Mrs. B once wanted it get her specs on some public occasion towards the end of her life, she clearly asked in English, "Where are my specs?" Shouldn't they have switched to Sinhala for such matters a long time earlier?
brilliant statement from snw about Banda snr.
When Chelvanayakam asked told SWRD not to pass The Sinhala Only Act SWRD had replied " i will only pass it when i learn Sinhala properly, and you know i am slow to learn"
the fact is your view of patriotism is blinded by Sinhala Nationalism, or why else would you put an idiot like Nalin de Silva in there.
just like the idiotic tamil nationalists who burned their hand with supporting Prabhakaran, the Sinlaha Nationalist are going to burn their hand s with supporting the fascist regime of Mahinda
