Mervin Silva and election 2010 - The time for people to voice

Mervin Silva became the last in the list contesting for Colombo District in 2004 General Elction. Still he managed to become a very powerful political character against the will of the people. Now he comes after the people again requesting to vote for him.

LankaRisng is not sure if the people of this country should cry or laugh for this political drama. But certainly all progressive people should be very very angry of this. We all should take a firm decision in making this bull shit not happening any more.

Political history
Mervin Silva entered into politics under the patronage of Mahinda Rajapaksa in Hambanthota district. However, later he left SLFP and joined hand with UNP. He used to be a keen critic of CBK. However soon after CBK won the presidential election, this shameless political clown got back the membership of SLFP after knelt down and asking for forgiveness in front of CBK in public. Later, Mervin became a darling of CBK.

Pathetic defeat for Mervin in 2004 election
In the general election in 2004, Mervin Silva contested in Colombo district. The people of Colombo rejected Mervin Silva and made him the LAST in the list with only less than 3000 preferential votes from the entire district!

National list - the orphanage for rejected?
However, by that time, he had managed to add his wife’s name into the National list and defeated Mervin Silva somehow convinced CBK to enter his wife in to the parliament. Later Mervin crept into parliament using this national list seat which was allocated to his wife.

It is said that National list is there for intellectual and professionals to enter into the legislature. However it is unfortunate that national list was used by this clown to enter into the parliament.

Mahinda’s worst political decision
It was great shame that president Rajapaksa appointed this crook as the minister of Labor, the same portfolio that president held for some time. The working class of this country still believes this appointment as an insult for them. Mervin has not done any noticeable work to enhance the life of labour of this country. He is clearly a failed minister.

The Rupavahini corporation incident – A symbolic victory of people
27th December, 2007 mark historic day in Sri Lankan politics and media freedom. On that day a political thug was made a clown. The incident involved with minister Mervin Silva and employees of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation sent strong signals to both political and judiciary circles in the country that people of this country is not satisfied and no longer willing to tolerate respective institution’s inability to curb violence unleashed by politicians in the society. One time political thug left the scene beaten up and painted with ink like a jackal !

Is Mahinda a silent approver of bloody politics?
President Rajapaksa can not hand off any of the thuggary and bloody actions done by this short minded political clown, because he approved CBK’s appointment of this clown to the parliament by giving him ministry portfolio and post of SLFP organizer in Kalaniya electorate. Now he has been given nomination to contest again in Gampaha District.

Double face of media
The media and Mervin has been inseparable entities. It is not only the conduct of Mervin Silva, but genuineness of conduct of media is now plainly exposed. At that time, Mervin Silva was heavily attacked in media for his conducts. The TV cameras of some of so called free media companies were always following him. Mervin Silva was a good source of news and news is commodity of selling. Mervin Silva was a great resource of income making news. These so called people’s media never had genuine interest in sending these political clowns out of politics. They are now promoting the same evil character. The same Mervin Silva that has injured hundreds of common people by using thugs is now a entertainer in some of the TV channels.

If the media is genuinely represent the aspiration of the common people of the country this is the best time to remind and expose all his dirty works of the past and alert the voters to not to support vicious characters in the election. However, it is very clear that the so called free media is always going after money and not conducting with genuine intention.

Deceptive stance of OppositionMervin Silva is a great asset to the opposition at difficult times. He provides many opportunities for the opposition to show their own presence to the public. After every thug activity of Mervin Silva, the opposition gets an opportunity to show their activeness. If there is no Mervin Silva in the government, the opposition is going to have tough time showing their presence to the people. Therefore, opposition tends not to attack political clown Mervin Silva during the election period because it’s a political investment for them if Mervin wins. This is another example of political double standards and dishonesty of opposition parties.


The people’s verdict
Mervin is now again contesting for the election this time in Gampaha District. The people of Colombo made him the last in the preferential list. Now it is the time for the people of Gampaha district to act. In democracy, first we all take right decision, and then only we can voice against all the misconducts of the politicians.
