Presidential Election – The test of personality of the nation

23 Jan 2010

A typical Sri Lankan voter in post colonial period had been one who make mistake in the Election Day. Then they used to keep on cursing the politicians that they themselves had elected, until the next election where they repeated the same mistake. It had been a vicious cycle fueled by many factors.

Election – The test of the nation
Election is a test for the nation. If we think that we as a nation love our country and it is politicians who trait the nation and corrupt, then we have miserably failed in most of those tests in the past because it is us who have elected every single leader of the past.

When one sits for an examination, he has to prepare for it. It is not only the study notes or lecture materials, but one has to read reference material looking to get the complete picture. Likewise every voter has to do his homework before step into the election centre.

He should be an active citizen in the society whose eyes and ears are open so that he has reasonable knowledge of what has been happening in the country. The passive citizens always spoil the results of the test of the nation. Above all each voter must use their thinking power to take the right decision based on facts and past experience rather than mere myths and promises of petty characters.

Leader – Personality of the nation
In Presidential Election the nation has the sole power of electing the leader of the nation. Therefore this is the main test of the nation. If the leader is genuine and correct, his influence will make even weak points in the team solid and his influence is meant to deliver good results.

The leader of the country represents the nation in the international community. His personality mirrors the personality of the nation. In simple, if majority of this country are bulls, donkeys and foxes, they will elect a leader of wild characteristics of same category. On the other hand the majority of the nation promotes compassion, love and amity, and then they will elect a leader with same qualities.

You get the key only once in every five years
If you need to extract coconut oil, you need to fill the mill with coconut and nothing else. If you put mustard instead, however hard you tried or prayed, you will only get mustard oil. It is you who take similar decision on Election Day and if you make wrong decision you will have to wait another five years to change it and in worse case more.

Check the Team
The leader himself is not going to do everything. Therefore it is important to have a good look at his team before come into a conclusion. If the leader is inexperience and weak, he will more dependent on the people supporting him. Therefore his policies will ultimately mirror the aspirations of his team members than the so called leader himself.

Identify your information channels
There are so many channels of information. You should know the background of these information channels before accepting those blindly. An INGO or other hidden international arm may be funding those information/news resources or there may be hired agents within those working tirelessly to brainwash you throughout the year so that you can be fooled on all important Election Day.

Are you ready to pass in the next test?

It is up to us to individually sit in the next major test of the presidential election on January 26th 2010. The politicians alone will not be the winners or the losers. You also will either be failed the test in the election day and be another miserable character cursing the politicians that you yourself have elected or vote intelligently and be a happy citizen who is proud of his choices in the election day.

It is your individual result that will determine the collective result of Sri Lankan nation being either a failed nation or rising nation. What is your choice?
