The reality of hedging drama

29 Jan 2009

After plenty of politico-media fire works, the hedging drama is now over. Despite all the hustle and bustle, has this ultimately benefited the common people of Sri Lanka?

Simple answer is ‘No’.

Then, who has won it for the day?

Firstly, those international banks that are supposed to get undue profits in the hedging deal have guaranteed their share of money and common tax payer’s money is at risk. According to some estimates, the state-owned corporation could be liable for up to $1 billion by next May.

Media fire work of corrupt politicos
One of the dominant characters involved in bringing hedging deal to the Supreme Court is the most corrupt politician of UNP regime under Ranil Wickramasingha. At that time, he promised the common people of the country that state owned ‘Sathosa’ super markets and shops will be open 24 hours of the day. He opened up large number of new ‘Sathosa’ outlets generously spending government money. The Sri Lankan nation later witnessed how he implemented the second phase of the plan by selling ‘Sathosa’ to his business mafia at dog cheap.

With the hedging drama, this corrupted politician has managed to clean up some amount of his dirty political character using this media fire work.

The ruling of the SC
The initial interim order of the SC seem to be in good intention. SC suspended payments to the international banks and mentioned that those conditions are unjustifiable. SC did not directly mention that the deal was corrupt. However the Minister of petroleum resources and chairman of petroleum cooperation were suspended until hearing is completed. Even if the deal is not corrupt, still these people have made big loss to country by being incompetent in their posts. Therefore, SC’s ruling was one big step towards better governance.

Government act irresponsible manner
The government is now very popular among the people due to correct and efficient planning and execution of fight against terrorism. However the government miserably failed in the hedging deal and it’s behavior in post SC rule is pathetic. This clearly shows that corrupt elements are influencial in current government as well. Those corrupt politicos managed to read the SC ruling as a part of conspiracy against the government.

In fact the SC ruling could have been utilized as a relief to the burden of paying excessive amount of money to these foreign banks. Since it was a court ruling, those banks have little option to challenge it. Therefore, government could have easily come out of the trouble and amend their mistake. However, agents of those corrupt elements in the government have won and now tax payer’s money will be unduly pumped out of the country.

On the other hand this clearly shows that Mahinda Rajapaksa government, despite victories in defense arena, is not mature enough to accept their mistakes and amend those in humble manner. It was a missed opportunity to shred an inefficient (if not corrupt) minister and bunch of bureaucracy. Once the fight against terrorism is over (in few months time), the government’s next task should be the ‘fight against corruption’ as part of development of our mother land. Mahinda Rajapaksa has lost the golden opportunity fire first gun shot of his next BIG war. The whole nation is closely looking at Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government to see if they are as genuine and competent in ‘fight against corruption’ as ‘fight against terrorism’ and the government has little time to amend the mistakes.

Is SC revenge from government?
The petition against hedging agreement had quite a bit of political motives and it was not solely in the intention of preventing the loss to the government and punishing the culprits.

On the other hand government is too aragent to accept their mistake and humbly rectify and punish the culprits or incompetent parties.

The SC took the revenge by fully cancelling the ruling saying government has not fully abided by the ruling.

It is common people’s hard earn money that will drain out of the country as a result.

So who has yet again won it for the day?

Why is fight against terrorism winning? Part 2 – Electing Correct Political Leadership

16 Jan 2009

When western colonial masters left this country in 1948, they have gradually transferred political power in to the hands of hand picked local comprador agents. They were not natural born leaders, but spoon fed local Muppets with Western Anglican head. Not only political power, but control of media was with those elite families. Therefore, People only had a choice to pick one among them.

In 1977, another so called leader from the lumpent Anglican society, Junius Richerd Jayawardana stormed into power, that time with 2/3 rd of majority. When he left politics in 1989 after achieving his petty personal goals, both north and south was burning.

JR was succeeded by president R.Premadasa. He was not from the elite lumpent society of Colombo 7, but from other extreme of under privileged urban community (another result of colonialism) in Kehelwatta, Pettha. He tried best of his ability to drive this country forward. But he had his own personal and psychological limitations. Ultimately he became a target of LTTE terrorists due to his inherent weaknesses.

In 1984, the western colonial masters paraded another queen into Sri Lankan politics. This time they experimentally utilized modern forms of post colonial weapons in the form of INGOs and their media agents to market their choice of ‘leader’ in Sri Lankankan society. We all have witnessed the tragedy of electing CBK for two consecutive terms.

It is in this backdrop that people of this country took a bold decision in November 2007 to elect Mahinda Rajapaksa as the president of Sri Lanka. It was not a rosy way for him, but had to fight even within his own party to get the nomination. He did not even get the genuine support of his own party leader CBK who is from lumpent society during his election campaign. Luckily, late most venerable Soma thero had already wakened up drowsy Sinhala community by educating the need of true Sri Lankan leadership to come out of misery and people did their bit.

Since 1948, people used to elect wrong leaders. They had repeatedly failed in decision makings on the Election Day and kept on swearing and weeping until next election where they do the same mistake. However in 2007, people took a correct decision to elect a true born national leader who has his values and culture rooted in this land and not in the western world, a person who knows the aroma of sweat of common villagers and feel the wind from our paddy fields.

When so called puppot leaders were ruling this country, it was branded as ‘miserable war’ or ‘a war that can not be ever won’. However, once a true brave leader is at the helm, it suddenly become ‘fight against terrorism’ and that is why it is winning. It is same security forces, arms and ammunition, but under different genuine political leadership.

USA has become a failed state under clownship of Gorge Bush with never ending wars. When Boris Yeltsin, the darling of the West was ruling Russia, the separatist terrorism in Chechnia has been identified by him and his western counterparts as a ‘war that can only be solved by devolution’ and great Russia was disintegrating like pieces of cake regardless of Nuclear weapons and other military strength. However once Vladimir Putin, a true born national leader was elected, the terrorism was crushed in no time and Rusian economy is now back in correct track.

That is why political leadership is one of the key factors of winning the fight against terrorism and here in Sri Lanka we are witnessing it.

Why is fight against terrorism winning? - Part 1

12 Jan 2009

When LTTE was having merry time with so called peace talks at Oslo and de facto government in the North in 2006, the National Movement Against Terrorism (NMAT) published a poster in Colombo defining the word ‘Terrorism’.

Ter-ror-ism = The illegal use of violence to achieve political goals

In July 25, 2007 Lankarising published a post (It was the second post of the LankaRising blog) elaborating on that poster explaining the need for a clear plan for fight against terrorism based on following key stages;

  • Identify it
  • Name it
  • Eliminate

1. Terrorism - Identify It

The whole game of terrorism is based on TEROR factor and the success or fall of terrorism is fully depended on this psychological aspect of TERROR.

The Key criteria of terrorism were identified as follows;

- Violence
- Psychological impact and fear
- Perpetrated for a Political Goals
- Deliberate targeting of non-combatants
- Unlawfulness or illegitimacy

We further analysed and identify terrorism as a vicious cycle, similar to the vicious cycle of poverty.

For terrorism to be effective, each and every stage of the vicious cycle of terrorism needs to be active and effective. And of course, in the fight against terrorism, we all have to fight to break all the links in this cycle.

We identified whole cycle based on a psychological aspect common to human (or in general common to any animal), and it is FEAR or TERROR.
Then, this psychological aspect was co related to each stage of vicious cycle of terrorism.

Step 1: Invoking Physical Fear (Mass murder)
Step 2: Invoking Mental Fear (Media and Political Campaigning stage 1)
Step 3: Convince the community to give in to terrorism (Media and Political Campaigning stage 2)
Step 4: Demand and win more negotiation, power sharing and co-habitation with terrorism.

LTTE terrorist organization is not mere military organization, it has international, political and media related mechanism to support the ‘vicious cycle of terrorism’.

The Media Terrorism:
While TamilNet and ‘Voice of Tiger’ were identified as direct media of LTTE terrorists, we also analysed and identified indirect media links funded by LTTE terrorism. Among those were some of the local and international media networks, media organizations and individuals funded by LTTE directly or through NGOs.

International Factor:
• Missionary (Protestant/Evangelical-Lutheran) and economical (e.g. oil) interests of Western world
• USA’s political interests
• Some of the Britain’s parliamentarians think Sri Lanka is still under British rule and therefore, they try to poke into matters in Sri Lanka.
• Political interests of India to be a regional power.
• India’s strategy to divert Tamil separatism in Tamil Nadu to further south by creating weaker and unstable Sri Lanka (weaker link in the chain).

INGOs (The Trojan Horse):
We emphasized the fact that all these international evil forces can act only through support within Sri Lanka. We identified this internal Trojan horse to be the INGOs, the new form of neo-colonialism. The influence of INGOs was spread in all parts of the government and beurocracy like an octopus.

2. Terrorism - Name It

LankaRising stated that it is only those who have guts to name terrorists by name have ability to eliminate it. So we emphasized the importance of identify and elect leaders and political parties who can call terrorists by name.

We equally emphasized the importance of identify and reject so called leaders and political parties which do not have enough guts to call terrorism by its name, because with this type of feeble clowns country can only dream of co-habitation with terrorists.

3. Terrorism - Eliminate it

1. Eliminate Mass Murdering, Killing & Attack on Economic Targets (black collar terrorism)
  • Having correct political leadership
- Terrorists and its supporters love Muppet leaders because only Muppets that can be danced to their tones.
- Correct military leadership
- No political agenda and time tables
  • Willpower and support of people
- Moral support to the forces
- Extra vigilance to prevent terrorist activities
- No backlashes!
  • Breaking down of terrorist propaganda mechanism
  • Eliminate LTTE backed INGO agents
  • Defuse international pressure by strategic counter mechanisms

The mark of Ananada College in the fight against terrorism

6 Jan 2009

Since 1505, the western colonial invaders strategically demolished our traditional education system that was based on our core values and strengths. They established Catholic missionary education system in order to produce comprador local agents in aid for their colonial rule. Those missionary schools were based on Royal Anglican system. It resulted in generating mere puppets made in colonial mold. They were not nourished by our culture or values and therefore, those rootless individuals were easily manipulated according to the tune of colonial masters.

It is in that backdrop that ‘Parama Vinnanartha Buddhis Society’ was established by Colonel Henry Steel Olcott. Ananda College was the first school established with the intention of creating next generation of leadership based on our Sinhala Buddhist cultural values and traditions.

At the end of World War II, after extracting all the wealth and fertility of our mother land, British colonial masters decided to transfer power into the hands of their local agents molded in their educational system. Those local comprador agents had already got key political, military and civil positions controle of the media. They happily continued to serve their masters in the West. Only a few exceptional individuals tried to challeng the system, but they were made silent either by plots or by the power of gun.

The result was the misery , poverty, terrorism and civil unrest in Sri Lankan society. It all changed when people of this country took a courageous decision to elect an ordinary person from village in Ruhuna rather than someone from the elite lumpent society in Colombo. No sooner, Mahinda Rajapaksa was elected; he took up the challenge of unifying the divided country.

Local Anglican lumpent society quickly identified the threat and united to fight against this extra ordinary person from ordinary people. However, old students of Ananda College, its brother schools like Nalanda, Dharamaraja, Darmasoka, Mahinda and other Central Colleges rallied around the leadership of Mahinda Rajapaksa to face the challenges.

The fist colossal task was to defeat LTTE terrorism which has been baptized by Western countries and it’s allied INGOs as of the deadliest and powerful terrorist organizations in the world. President Rajapaksa needed exceptional military leadership to tackle this inhuman and ruthless terrorist organization. Incidentally, most of his choices happened to be old Anadians whom were brought up with patriotism and our core strengths and values.

Commander of Chief Major General Sarath Fonseka who leads the military wing of the fight against terrorism is an eminent old Anandian. Sri Lanka Army under his leadership has already demolished the Kilinochchi, the den of tiger terrorists and now in the hunt for terrorist leader Piripaharan in Multiv jungle.

Sri Lanka Navy blasted initial pounding on LTTE destroying all of their military supply ships. In no time, so called LTTE sea tigers hesitated even to sail a small dingy boat in northern sea due to rejuvenated military tactics of Navy offensive squads. The leadership for Navy is yet again provided by an old Anandian Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda.

There was a time that innocent civilians of so called ‘boarder villages’ were on the look for run away due to inhuman terrorist attacks. Political ‘leadership’ for these tragical flees were provided by Dr. Jayalath Jayawardana of UNP who generously distributed sirrens to facilitate ethic cleansing of LTTE. When Mahind Rajapaksa was elected president, he did not want to facilitate fleeing of civilians, but to defend their villages from terrorists. It’s Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara, another Anandian that was appointed to revive ‘Grama Araksaka’ force under new name of Civil Defense Force. They no longer mere defending, but newly formed ‘Nandimithra Balakaya’ of civil defense force involved in offensive operations to chase away terrorists from the vicinity of threatened villages.

While three out of the four key military leadership are held by old Anandians, The president himself who provided political leadership is an old Nalandian. The Defense Secretary Lt. Col. (Retired) Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who effectively coordinated military and political leadership is another old Anandian. The Prime Minister Rathnasiris Wickramanayaka who is very vociferous against LTTE terrorism is another product of Ananda College. Just like King Dutugamunu sent his brother Tissa to harvest Eastern Province, Great Mahinda of modern era sent Basil Rajapaksa, Senior Presidential Advisor & MP to develop liberated Eastern province. He is yet another distinguished old Anandian.

UNP was the choice of colonial masters to transfer political power. Ironically, most of key persons of UNP are from angelical-missionary Royal College and other colleges of the same mold. However some of UNP prominent figures crossed over to the government to support fight against terrorism. Karu Jayasooriya was one of the old Anandian came forward to support Mahinda Rajapaksa government at crisis situation. After stability of government was set, he has now crossed back to UNP to establish himself in UNP. Rajitha Senarathna is another old Anandian who crossed over to support government’s fight against terrorism.

In the fight against terrorism, most of the old Anandians have come forward to protect their mother land and being a part of the victory. The post colonial era of comprador agents has now ended. The new Sri Lanka is now rising and mark of Ananda is proudly prominent in it. Now, the central colleges and other schools in the villages should take this country up to the next level.

The great victory of Kilinochchi

3 Jan 2009

Recapturing of Kilinochchi from LTTE terrorist control marks the greatest politico-social-military victory for Sri Lankans of modern Era. It is a result of great will power and commitment of the nation. The security forces had shed both sweat and blood to secure this victory while President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government provided the political leadership. This great victory is being celebrated by whole nation that supported the fight against terrorism except few born traitors and bankrupt politicians in the South.

Kilinochchi has been the symbolic capital of mythical Ealam territory. The fall of Kilinochchi mark the final break down of the dream of terrorist leader Piripaharan and his ardent political and military associates in North and South. The 2nd of January 2009 may have been the most horrible sleepless night for Velupille Piripaharan. In his short snaps, he might have seen the rewind of cruelty he has committed to fulfill his day dream of Ealam in vein. The mascaras of innocent Sinhala and Muslim civilians at Anuradhapura, Aranthalawa, Mutur, Kokilai, Nayaru and many more may have been among his dreadful dreams. There is hardly any town in Colombo city that has not witnessed a bomb blast during last three decades. Above all, the greatest suffering has been for the innocent Tamil community in North and East. Tamils have been living with dignity and harmony with Sinhalese in Sri Lanka since ancient time. It’s long before American people select a minority black president that Sinhalese had chosen minority Tamil kings throughout the history.

It all changed when Western colonial countries invaded us and broke the social and cultural bondage of the people. The colonial masters left the country in 1948, vesting political power on their obedient local comprador agents. These hand picked comprador leaders had no genuine intention to unify Sri Lankan nation. It is only the greed for political power that drive them. The ‘divide and rule’ policy was continued and ethnic hatred was exploited for petty political gains. Both majority and minority community felt that they have not got their true independence in post colonial era. The rebel in 1971 and 1988 were result of frustration from majority Sinhala community. The power hungry Tamil politicians managed to give a communal reading for this common unrest that was aggravated with the rowdy introduction of open economy.

It all started when power hungry old cunning fox J.R Jayawardana unleashed state terrorism on minority community. This unfortunate incident ultimately became the breeding ground Tiger terrorism. When J.R, the Hanuma of modern era left politics in 1988, both North and South were burning.

Since then only president D.B Wijayathunga who showed genuine commitment in fight against terrorism. President R. Premadasa who identified himself as a tempered politician was first fooled and later assassinated by LTTE terrorists. CBK was paraded into Sri Lankan politics by NGO agents as the queen of peace and purity. But we all later witnessed the true arrogant and corrupt nature of CBK who proved to be just another comprador agent of her masters in Western world. Ranil Wickramasingha had wind fall when Premadasa, Gamini, Lalith, Ranjan and all other UNP leadership was pruned by LTTE military wing. Ranil got political power only for less than one year and we all witnessed the true feeble nature of that political clown who prepared to give all the ransom demanded by LTTE terrorists.

It is in this backdrop that the Sri Lankan nation took a bold decision to elect Mahinda Rajapaksa as the president of Sri Lanka. It all changed within very short time when clear political leadership was provided for the fight against terrorism. The valiant security forces rallied under the firm military leadership of Major General Sarath Fonseka and now we are witnessing the fruits of commitment of whole nation. Now it’s just a matter of time for the fall of Mulativu and then no one will be able to hold the rising march of Sri Lankan nation into new dimension in global village.
