The latest web traffic reports confirm that Dailymirror.lk is fast loosing the battle of Sri Lankan information war into the hand of relatively young competitor Adaderana.lk. The Alexa traffic statistics clearly depict that Adaderana is going to overtake Daily Mirror in the near future.
This will be the first time that online news broadcasting supremacy of Daily Mirror being challenged. Daily Mirror has been one of the pioneer online news site backed by its printed media network. In the contrary Ada Derana entered the race only this year.
The loosing party has already started attacking Ada Derana by publishing news items stating that Ada Derana site is biased to the government. Ada Derana has fired back sending a mail to Mr. Ranjit Wijewardene, the Chairman of the Company questioning if it is ethical to accuse a fellow competitive media organization without any basis.

Wijeya Newspapers Limited formerly known as Wijeya Publications Limited was incorporated in 1979. Mr. Ranjit Wijewardene, who is the uncle of Ranil Wickramasinghe, founded the Company. It played key role in promoting weak character of Ranil Wickramasingha as a viable leader. As a result of blindly supporting Ranil Wickramasingh’s bankrupt political mission, Wijeya Newspapers has lost credibility for their readers.
DailyMirrir - the home of waged journalists of LTTE
It is now well known fact that handful of INGO agents and (so called) journalists who were in the pay roles of the LTTE were employed at Wijeya Newspapers. Dharmeratnam Sivaram alias ‘Taraki’ was the most notorious of the lot who simultaneously published pro LTTE articles in Sunday Times and Tamilnet. Sivaram’s main mission in working for Sunday Times was to create ‘fear psychosis’ in the South there by converting LTTE’s terrorists activities in to political victories.
Iqbal Athas was another well known figure who himself identified as a defence expert and spread news in the south inflating LTTE’s military capabilities and highlighting temporary set backs of the government forces. His main mission was to demoralize the government forces in the fight against terrorism.
There were some other so called journalists who were accused of connections with LTTE terrorist activities. While most of those so called journalists have left the country after the defeat of LTTE terrorism, only Upul Josheph Fernando is still washing the dirty linen of Ranil Wickramasinghe and UNP.
Ada Derana – The supporter of patriotic front
Ada Derana is the news publishing wing of the Derana media network which is affiliated to the Triad Advertising. It is well known fact that Triad advertising and Derana media network actively supported the fight against terrorism. The famous “Api Venuven Api” campaign was designed by the Triad advertising. Therefore, Derana has won the heart of the people within very short period.

It is a well known fact that 'Derana' is owned by the same people who own the advertising agency handling MR's campaign.
This same agency also handled MR's last campaign and even Chandrika's campaign.
The 'Daily MIrror' is right in expressing the view that 'Derana' is biased towards the Govt. After all, That's where they get their major accounts from.
'Uthuru Mithuru', Sri Lanka Insurance, People's Bank, Mobitel are just a sample of the accounts they were given as a thank you by MR and GR.

Kaplia, Accusations can be made on anything. They need to be proved and punished. if not, they are mere useless words.
I expect any self respecting media to be totally unbiased. Which is sadly not the case in Sri Lanka. It is not enough to say "we are more unbiased than them". While I know Dialymirror is completely anti-MR, I feel Derena is also biased towards the government (although they don't show it as DM does). At best they have conflicts of interests when they have public links with the government - unfortunately that shows from the tone and the contents of their stories. I hope they step up to become the best online media site soon by distancing themselves from all political groups.
