Is Sarath or Mahinda the father of victory against LTTE terrorism? - Part 1

29 Nov 2009

Retired General Sarath Fonseka is trying his level best to get the sole credit of military victory. In the mean time AsianTribune has challenged that they are willing to arrange a genetic test to prove the charge that he is the father of the children of few of the women soldiers.

There's an old saying that victory has many fathers and defeat is an orphan. This is exactly what has happened in Sri Lankan politics since defeating LTTE terrorism.Lets get back to original question by defining terrorism.
Terrorism
Terrorism => TERROR + ISM

“Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for an ideological goal (as opposed to a lone attack), and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants”
Ref: Wikipedia
It is clear that ultimate goal of terrorism is political and in Sri Lankan context, LTTE terrorists were fighting for separate (mythical) Tamil home land.

War/Battle

In the organised military sense, a group of combatants and their support is called an army on land, a navy at sea, and an air force in the air. Within each theatre, there may be one or more consecutive military campaigns. A military campaign includes not only fighting but also intelligence, troop movements, supplies, propaganda, and other components.

The Executive President of Sri Lanka

The President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is the elected head of state and the head of government. The President is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, head of the Cabinet, and also appoints the prime minister. It is clear that being the commander-in-chief, president declare war or peace against any country or any other military decision to combat against military group locally or internationally. The Generals may be appointed and oust by the will of the president.

War or peace, a political decision
Just as terrorism is politically motivated the fight against terrorism too is political decision and the three arm forces and police was bound to implement that decision taken by political leadership. Ofcourse the political leadership has to bear the success or failure of the decision.

The decision to fight against LTTE was not taken over night
It is important to remember that Sri Lanka has been struggling to counter LTTE separatist terrorism for over two decades under different governments. There were at times that Sri Lankan military force shown that they were near winning over LTTE terrorism. It is political leadership which is above military that prevented those operations see through to the final victory.

The decision itself of militarily defeating terrorism is a result of long political battle in Sri Lankan society. The foreign elements and their back licking INGO agents were actively campaigning against using military means to combat terrorism. LTTE and its allied western countries had spent billions of Dollars to create fear psychosis against LTTE terrorism in Sri Lankan society.

It is not only political movements like “Jathika Hela Urumaya”, “Mahajana Ekasath Peramuna” and fraction of SLFP, but some other civil movements like “National Movement Against terrorism”, “Chinthana Parshadaya”, leaders in Maha Sangha and many more actively involved in convincing the political decision of militarily defeating terrorism.

Electing of President Mahinda Rajapaksa
The direction of solving LTTE terrorism issue in Sri Lanka changed when majority of Sri Lankan nation with the clear guidance of patriotic political movements vote for Mahinda Rajapaksa over UNP candidate Ranil Wickramasingha in 2005 presidential election. If UNP candidate Ranil Wickramasinghe had won that election, we could have been still under the clutches of foreign influence and separatist terrorism.

It is the aspiration of the people that count in the form of ballots and Mahinda Rajapaksa managed to fulfill in 2009. The entire nation was behind the Mahinda Rajapaksa government till the end.

It is very clear that the victory was a result of collective efforts.
Tamil politicians know that tamils are finished militarily and now they are conning up a dirty political war...and people like ranil are waiting for bits and pieces to swallow
