Why aren’t much beggers in America?

3 Oct 2009

Simple Answer: American people hardly donate money to a people in need (even if one is really in need !) . On the other hand a poor person on the street can hardly servive the winter if he can not find enough money for food and heating. Therefore, by the end of the winter the poor fellow is died and this will never be reported on CNN.

So, we say America is a country devoid of poor and beggers. However the bitter reality is that unlike countries like Sri Lanka and India, the attitude of people and climate of Mother Nature (may be those two are interdependent) of USA does not promote existence of poor people on the streets.

The geo-climate system plays vital role in attitude of the people. Survival plays big role. Even Buddha has considered 'geological factor' in deciding where to born. He decided India which is more conducive to living than extreme cold weather or extremely dry deserted area. (That may be the reason that some Buddhist literature says all the Buddhas have born in India. We may consider this as all Buddhas have born in similar geo-climate condition that is conducive to living).

On those extreme weather conditions it is natural that people become aggressive for mere survival.

What do you think? Which system is better? Under which geo-political system will people be happier? Think about this…

I guess for people like you ignorance truly is bliss.
of course there are poor people in USA. but unlike Sri Lanka some of the wealthy people tend to share their wealth. There are places called shelters here. and even though you don't see beggers in you pretty little holly wood movies, the reality is far from it.

Perhaps you should check out http://www.nevblog.com/labels/Homeless%20Experiment.html for a different view to the matter.

very logical analysiss.. You find most aggresive people in dessert areas like Arabis (well known for cruality) and cold countries like N America and Europe. Its hard to live in harmonry with nature on those countries. So they tend to be aggresive resulting trying to exploit other nations near equator who are inherently less agressive due to richness of natural resources, (vegitation, water etc). The funny thing is those western countries try to impose same political and economical system (which is needed for their survival) on countries like us which used to self sufficiency and self satisfaction (core principle of Buddhism).

No wonder why Obama is getting death threats trying to increase social security in US :-)
West is run by greed and hunger where as East is run by serenity, self constrain and sustainable living in harmony with nature.

There is a bit of truth in all the comments. Here is my two cents:
1. There are beggars in N. America, but they are called “homeless people”, here.
2. No, they don’t die during winter; there are many shelters for them to survive winter, provided by both government & charity organizations.
3. Begging is not a business here, unlike in SL where it is run by local Mafia.
4. There are many charity organizations to rehabilitate beggars, by guiding and helping them to join the work force.
5. Yes, N. Americans do not promote begging, so they are less sympathetic about them.
