The reality of Anarkali saga

26 Sep 2009

When Anarkali was given nomination by PA for the Sourthern Provincial election, LankaRising posted a small article titled “dakune meharkge chanda ganna menna piduru mitiyak “. You may have interpreted the content differently depending on the glasses you wear. Now president Rajapaksa himself has disclosed justifying the argument that Anarkali is mere a bundle of hay intended to get the votes of bulls and donkeys in the Gall district.
It is reported that president Rajapaksa disclosed that “If we did not given nomination for Anarkali, Mangala Samaraweera could well arrange nomination for Anarkali in UNP list”. One may argue this as just a speculation to justify Anarkali’s nomination from PA. But this has grave truth in Sri Lankan politics.

UNP’s vote bank is deeply rooted in the ignorant people of this country whom are freely manipulated and exploited by comprodor segments and their allied media. It is this petty portion that s still remaining with the UNP forming the majority of UNP’s current vote bank. This is clearly evident by analyzing the preferential vote. It was Ranjan Ramanayaka for Sabaragamuwa province and Rosy Senanayaka for Western provinces that top the UNP preferential votes.

Anarkali represent the culture that UNP introduced and promoted in 1977. Ranil, Mangala and other UNP politicians are helpless in criticizing childish politics of Anarkali. Anarkali is another dilemma for UNP.

Now, PA has nominated ‘Anarkali’ to grab this segment of UNP votes. This will result in further erosion of UNP’s vote bank. It is dirty and unfortunate trick by PA which is the progressive force of Sri Lankan politics. But when we have considerable portion of bulls, donkeys and goats in our society, the political system demands nominating bundles of grass too to provoke their appetite.

The parliament and other provincial bodies reflect mirror of the society. This is the reality of democracy. It is informative evaluation for better society that will result in better political culture. The marketing and media is marketing passion, hatred and ignorance in 24X365 to maximize their profit by fooling he people. Now political parties need the vote of the same people to establish political power. This is part of another vicious cycle that need breve initiatives from political leadership. If Mahinda is incapable of this we should build better character to fulfill this mission!!

Agree, Mahinda should stand up and heal the cause of social issue deep rooted in advertising and marketing than trying to exploit symptoms of the ailment... He was successfull doing same in fight against terrorism,, but yet to prove in this aspect...

dude, problem is not Anarkali, its the lankan society that's to be blamed. Why would anyone even want to consider a jungi clad actress? There's seriously something wrong in a country / society that votes for this type of evil characters.
