The dilemma of JVP

31 Aug 2007

JVP had been with its ups and downs since 1971. JVP is the only party in the south that has paid its political price in thousands of lives of youth, in 1971 and 1988/89 respectively.

From its inception, JVP has identified themselves as Marxists. However, it’s a doubt that how many people in this country, even those who have voted for JVP are aware of the principles of Marxism.
Some people think that it is similar to the political ideology of traditional ‘Samasamaja’ or Communist party of Sri Lanka. However, you may have hardly seen JVP leaders in the same stage of Samasamaja/Communist party leaders for obvious reason of the different in ideology.

If we have to compare JVP, the closest choice is the ‘Nava Samasamaja Party’ (NSSP) lead by Wickramabahu Karunarathna.

In fact, in the local government election in 2004, JVP was allied with NSSP and JVP leaders and NSSP leaders were campaigning in the same stage. In those political stages JVP leaders and NSSP leaders publicly admitted their commitment for Tamil peoples right of ‘self ruling’ which is one of the core principle in Marxism.

It was ironically the JVP’s worst election result in their political history.

It was after this unsuccessful election that JVP took a U turn in its political agenda and took more patriotic and nationalistic face. Suddenly, the hand painted reddish poster format was replaced by more yellowish and brownish posters which was originally adopted by the Sinhala national movements including Sihala Urumaya party.

It is ‘demand and supply’ theory used by JVP. The party is showing its Marxist interface to the student unions in the universities, trade unions in the public and government sector, and far rural areas of the country while showing its patriotic and nationalistic face to the urban public.

Although, JVP took different face in being more patriotic and nationalist, still Marxism has dominated in the party. That is why they have formed Patriotic National Movement (PNM) to present their patriotic face to the urban upper middle class and educated rural people and only selective set of JVP leaders attending to the rallies and media briefings organized by PNM.

One can define this double faced behavior of JVP as mere opportunistic and cunning which is quite true. But it equally shows the pathetic state of the university student movements and trade unions. Still they are miles behind than the educated middle class society of Sri Lanka.

Time will only tells if JVP will be able to transform its bankrupt backward minded Marxism sectors in to more realistic and progressive force or they are cornered in to another unsuccessful rising of self destruction.

A mission, dreams and day-dreams

A good leader has a vision and we all as human have our personal dreams.
It is reported in the media recently, that Mangala is having a dream.
Dreams are depended on the character and personality of the dreamer. Therefore, it is worth knowing the background of the dreamer before analyzing the dream.

He first entered the Parliament of Sri Lanka as a representative of the Matara District in 1989, and was a appointed the Minister of Post & Telecommunications in the cabinet of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in 1994.

He got this fast track in political career as a gain for being supporting CBK to enter in to politics and being a slippers licker for blindly supporting every dirty work of CBK.

Then CBK wanted to bring the ‘federal constitution’ into the parliament. Throughout the history, people of this country considered unitary of state as the utmost important point. So there came the need for brain wash the ordinary people of Sri Lanka. While senior SLFP members like Mahainda Rajapaksa , Mithreepala Sirisena and Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka refused to involve with that dirty task funded by NGOs, it was Mangala (together with his close ally Dilan Perera) that took to lead the brainwash campaign named as ‘Sudu Neluma’ and ‘Thavalama’ movements.

Just as an obedient ox that pulls the cart, Mangala tirelessly drove the ‘Thavalama’ campaign, with his hand picked media mafia lead by Wasntha Raja, traveling round the country. It is at that time he got better contact with all the NGO mafia and agents of western evil forces.

In return for being blind and ardent CBK ally, Mangala got more and more political and economical power.

That was the obvious reason why he got chances in providing more job opportunities in public sector for his supporters and other deals in his ministry.

It is well known for any Sri Lankan about Mangala’s extravagant expenditures in his ministries particularly for his own personal benefit. In the CBK government, Mangala got open license to spend any amount for his own benefit and for his political campaigns. It is those who benefited for long time that is still following and supporting Mangala in order to retain their benefits in the future.

Mangala is well known for his bachelor life and his famous visits to various clubs and get-togethers in the town. It is known fact that, those who insult the maha Sangha will be getting various karmic affects, and its famous buzz that Ranil affiliated with Mangala is one of that affect.

Mangala and Ranil are having common philosophy in fooling the public which is brainwashing the people by controlling the media. That is why Mangala spent millions of money for 'Mawbimma' newspaper in vain.

Dreaming is good, but not so good is day dreaming.
A real dream has life span until someone wakes him up, but bogus dreamers will be keep on dreaming their personal day dreams.

Dumb and Dumbers

29 Aug 2007

We all, including even ardent UNP supporters accept the fact that Ranil is not a genuine leader nor he is having great personality. He got into politics due to his family background and his uncle J R cleared the initial path of Ranils political career. Afterwards it was just windfalls all the way into the post of Prime Minister.

Ranil was ever dumb sitting in the side of his uncle JR when the infamous Indo-Lanka peace (or rather piece) accord was signed while the leaders like Premadasa and Athulathmudali were against it considering the negative effect of this accord for the country.

Later, when Lalith and Gamini were fighting for democracy with the president Premadasa, Ranil was playing his ever dumb and passive role gracefully.

He got his initial rewards for being dumb in the post of 'leader of parliament'. It is a well known fact that Premadasa always kept people with leadership qualities at arms length while keeping mere characters in the key posts. While D.B Wijethunga was Premadasa's choice for the post PM, Ranil was his obvious dumb candidate for the third in the rank.

Ranil met with more windfalls when LTTE start killing the real leaders of UNP, namely, Premadasa, Lalith and Ranjan..

Still this dumb character lost its party leadership when Gamini came back to the UNP grab the leadership back from Ranil.

It was LTTE again came to rescue Ranil by brutally killing Gamini in the middle of presidential election campaign.

The story behind Ranil's political career is as simple as this. Being dumb and get the rewards.

There are parties who love dumb and muppet leaders, because they know that only muppets that can be danced to their tones.

That is why LTTE and international community love this clown so much.

'Being dumb and get the windfall'may be a great success for Ranil's personal goals, but this has greatly blocked the progress and nurture of true leadership within the UNP itself and for Sri Lanka.

It has proved from well over dozens of election results that 'being dumb' may get through the party hierarchy and there are handful of dumbers in the UNP itself to accept Ranil as their party leader, but the people of this country are not dumb to elect and accept a dumb character as their national leader.

Now, UNP is paying the price for working with a dumb leadership for too long. It's the responsibility of UNP members and supporters to work and come out of the culture of dumb leaderships before it's too late.

Vision, Passion and Confusion

27 Aug 2007

There are three columns written by politicians in Lakbimma Sunday edition. Namely 'Doramadalawa' compiled by Champika Ranawaka, 'Ninawwa' by Wickramabahu Karunarathna and 'Wimasa Balamu' by S.B. Dissanayaka. These three columns are of three distinct flavors and style and those columns clearly reflect their political views, mindset and attitude toward the country and nation.

Doramadalawa
The name itself of the column is futuristic and visionary and such is its content. The style of writing is disciplined, clear and simple but equally strong on due targets. Champika start writing this column by the time JHU was formed. When there was an artificially created opposition for monks entering the politics, he used this column effectively to answer those critics. He insisted on need for crushing terrorism to free the society which we all are now witnessing including the columnist himself. While others are still chewing about Thoppigala, Champika as usual setting environment and analyzing strengths and weaknesses of the final war at Wanni. Doramadalawa is a constructive and critical analysis of cultural, historical and social aspects of Sri Lankan society with a panoramic vision.

Ninawwa
As the name suggest, Ninawwa (literally mean 'speculation') is consisted of the dreams of a Marxist politician. Wickramabahu is always seeing his dreams of more and more unrest in the working class, increase in strikes and he is counting days for his ultimate dream, the peoples rise or revolution. Just as any Marxist, this column is full of jealousy and hatred, and it promotes and tries to rouse hatred in cast, class or ethnicity. The style of writing is bit rude and ill disciplined as result of his intentions. At times the columnist hints of his frustration for not seeing his dreams come true. Still as a good and ardent Marxist, Wickramabahu continue to report all his daydreams in 'Ninawwa' column.

Wimasa Balamu
This column by SB is still young in existence compared to other two columns. Just as any other fast track politicians, SB has broken his wings after being ill disciplined and unconscious in the way. He never had time for writing on his fast track political career under CBK. Now SB has lost its flavor in the political arena and he is finding more time for writing. However, this is the least interesting and literally poorest column. This column is at times a confession and other times report of his frustration, but all and all its whole mark is confusion. Just as any other politicians governed by foreign and business mafia, at times, SB himself is in confusion about national issues, at other times just as any another politician of his type; he tries his best to confuse the readers or the nation. As a genuine countryman he enjoys winning war against terrorism in East, but just as a typical politician then he preach of federalism and co habitation with terrorism to satisfy foreign and business community who nurture him.

Political confusion, diffusion and sieve effect

25 Aug 2007

Year 1995 marked the beginning of a dark era. The background for this dark era was set up by the combination of military and political wings of LTTE. Firstly, LTTE’s military mechanism managed to eradicate all the UNP political leaders with real leadership potential. Leaders like R. Premadasa, Lalith Athulathmudali, Ranjan Wijayarathna, and finally Gamini Dissanayaka were brutally assassinated and thereby political vacuum was created to pave the way for a mere feeble clown like Ranil to come to the helm of the United National Party.

It was the political wing of LTTE together with the support of the media and business mafia that erupted similar political chain actions in the opposition to brought forward a character called CBK in to the helm of SLFP, the main opposition party.

It happened to be the most miserable time for all true patriotic people of Sri Lanka, because leadership of both the main parties were then controlled by the evil forces. Evil and vicious forces always play in Sri Lankan politics, but it is always dangerous when these evil forces are mingling and prominent in both the main parties at same time.

It was a time of confusion and frustration. That was the reason why most venerable Soma thero had to come forward and request the nation to not to vote for any of the candidates in the next presidential election and rather cancel their votes.

Now we have passed this dark era of confusion and misery and finally found a true national leader.

The intermingled evil forces are now separating out into two distinct fronts. This is really a good sign for all the people who really love this country. These evil forces can be more harmful and effective when they are distributed than in one side.

It all started when CBK was thrown away from the SLFP and Mahinda Rajapaksa was elected as the party candidate for the presidential election. The evil forces in SLFP lost its leadership after long time. Initially, these evil forces pretended as supporting Mahinda. But we all know that Presidential election campaign of Mahinda Rajapasa was sphere headed by JHU and JVP rather than then SLFP itself.

Later, these evil forces tried to oppose Mahinda within the party. For privileged traitors like Mangala and Sripathy, it was a period of unrest and frustration. Ultimately, both of them cross back to their friends in UNP. SB had already been in the UNP accompany for some time. So old friends SB and Mangala, who work together to bring CBK into the power and thereby ruined this country are in one side again.

Just as Venerable Soma thero mentioned, now CBK has joined hand with Ranil to fight against patriotic national leader Mahinda Rajapaksa. But Mahinda has got the support of nationalist leaders of UNP like Karu Jayasooriya, Hemakumara Nanayakkara and Bandula Gunawardana to strengthen the government.

We can see that progressive forces and evil forces are clearly separating out in to the two fronts.

Ranil-CBK camp supported by people like Mangala, Jayalath, SB , John and Ravi in one side while Mahinda camp is supported by JHU and progressive fractions of UNP.

And importantly, clearly we all know that which camp has the support of LTTE, its media and business mafia together with its proxy TNA.

Now the political environment is less confusing and clearer. So unlike in 1996, the voters have a simple decision to make in the coming elections.

Kandy Perahera and Sri Lankan society

23 Aug 2007

The Kandy annual Esala Perahera which started on 19th August will be peaked on 28th August with the final Randoli processions parading the streets. The Perahera tradition has been with Sri Lankan culture for eon.

It has been evolved with time since Anuradhapura era up to now. The Dalada Perahera got its current shape in the reign of Sri Wickrama Rajasingha, the last king of Sri Lankan. It is known fact that Sri Wickrama Rajasingha was a Hindu and he influenced the traditions of Dalada Tthevava and Perahera drastically. That is how the processions of four devala integrated into the Dalada Perahera.

Of course the traditions are conditioned by the prevailing politico-social context of the country and further evolve which is clearly reflected in of our Dalada history.
However, it is worth analyzing the current state of Kandy Dalada Perahera and see if the Perahera correctly reflect the aspirations of the common people of Sri Lanka. Time has passed since the last king of Sri Lanka ousted from the throne. Still have we ever been able to shred aside these ridiculously mismatching Hindu tails from the Dalada Perahera? Now it is called traditions and people are scared to change the traditions. But they have forgotten the very fact that these mismatching traditions were introduced by breaking existing Buddhist traditions!!

People still says that ‘Dalada Maligawa’ is a national asset and ‘Dalada Wahanse’ is the symbol of sovereignty and power of our mother land. If ‘Dalada Wahanse’ is considered as national symbol, the ‘Dalada Perahera’ must fully reflect our nation.

However, still only upcountry traditional dancing is allowed in the Dalada Perahera. It is time to seriously consider about this so called tradition. Does the ‘Dalada Wahanse’ an asset of up country people or are we matured enough to consider it as a great religious asset of all the Buddhists in the world and the greatest cultural and social asset of whole Sri Lankans?

Without any argument, traditional Kandian dancing is the most colorful and superior traditional dancing in Sri Lanka.

As a Sri Lankan, still it’s a great pain to see only up country dancing allowed in the ‘Dalada Perahera’ which is considered to be a national event. We can even see drummers and clergy from Japan marching in the procession, but not a single dancer of low country or Sabaragamuwa traditions. These Japanese traditions have been introduced to Dalada Perahera by breaking existing traditions. But so far this has never being the case for low country traditions.

Now it’s a time where the Maha Sangha is more and more uniting to promote Buddhism in the country. So it is the political and social leaders to act progressively to keep this great Sinhala tradition as a national event rather than a regional event to boost personal aspirations of few radala families.

The Kandy Perahera has become the symbol of backward minded traditional thinking of upcountry families. This hints why great monks and national leaders are no longer immerging from up country areas. The up country society has lost its national interests due to their traditional ‘up country’ arrogance. If one analyze the latest election results, it is clearly evident that, the people from Sinhala dominated up country areas have always either slow to response or completely blind to the national issues.

They have simply forgotten the fact that they happened to be up country man simply due to a geological fact and not for any realistic social or political fact.

For how long are we going to keep ‘Dalada Perahera’ as a symbol of nation divided?

Maharagama Chinthanaya

20 Aug 2007

Maharagama is one of the key electorates in Colombo. The people of Maharagama are famous for being patriotic, progressive and erect.

Even when the Sri Lankan culture was eroded in early 1980s where ordinary people in Sri Lanka were dreaming of fantasies like Singapore. The voters of Maharagama took a bold and realistic decision to persevere with Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) lead by Mr. Dinesh Gunawardana, a true patriotic.

The ‘Maharagama chinthanaya’ was not built in a single day. It is a result of great leadership and trusted process. The people of Maharagama are greatly influenced by the ‘Siri Wajiranana Darmyathanaya’ under the patronage of most venerable Madehe Pannaceeha thero. The greatest gift for the people of Maharagama was the ‘Darmayathnaya’ which provided not only spiritual but also much needed political leadership. The Sangha of ‘Darmayathnaya’ was well known for practice and preach of pure Buddhism that is not corrupted by Hindu and Jothisya (Astology) influence.

The venerable Gangodawilla Soma thero was one of the greatest fruit of this unbroken tradition and nurture. Ven. Soma thero managed to expand this great thinking beyond the boundaries of Maharagama, firstly into Colombo district and then throughout the country.

While the whole country love and care and, for some extend in debt, for this great thinking and people behind it, there are fractions that got negative influence and bad affects of this way of thinking.

The most affected party happened to be none other than UNP led by Ranil Wickramasingha. Colombo district was considered to be one of the strong hold of UNP. However, Maharagama played a key role in showing great resistance to all the dirty and unpatriotic policies of UNP. The results of recent elections clearly show that UNP only mange to secure third place in the light of other more patriotic and national parties like PA and JHU. The influence and leadership of Maharagama is clearly shown in the election results of Kotte, Kabawa and Homagama electorates as well.

Ranil has clearly identified the role of Maharagama chinthanaya in the national politics. Being a hard core product of Anglican thinking, Ranil knows that he no longer he will be able to wear the cap of nationalistic leadership. The more he tries to pretend as a nationalistic, it always ending up being mere joker and clown. So, Ranil (most probably his political advisors) is trying to buy the great ‘Maragama chinthanaya’ using one of the greatest ex-general of Sri Lankan army.

Nothing has changed in Anglican dominated UNP and leadership and we all know the influence of the leadership on its policies. Time will only tell if war hardened general will be successful in diluting this great ‘Maharagama Chinthanaya’ and its great people and play them into the hand of UNP.

In the next few weeks, this great ex-Genaral and war hero will decide on his destiny in Sri Lankan history either as a great General and war hero, or as a petty politician contracted by a political clown to try and avert the great people of Maharagama and their unique thinking.

Maharagama thinking is a result of trusted and unbroken process. The process itself will surface more and more great leaders like Ven. Soma thero in the future and mere use of characters and agents (regardless of how great they were professionally) will not be able to influence its thinking and process. It will only result in diminishing of their hard earned dignity and personality.

Action plan to track back the private bus industry

16 Aug 2007

The bus service of Sri Lanka has been in bad condition for decades. Its not the time to curse the past administrators and politicians for mis ruining the public bus service. As a nation we all must take the responsibility and do our part to have a better transport service for tomorrow.

We are winning the major battle against LTTE fascist terrorism. Now its time to start fight against all the mini terrorisms in the Sri Lankan culture as well.

If an investment on industry is not getting profit, that individual will shift to some other industry. But only in the private bus industry, the public is intimidated and crushed saying that private bus industry is not profitable.

This is only happening in the private bus industry right?

When you go to a shop, has the shop owner ever threaten you and ask you to go and buy the stuff from next shop?

Have you ever intimidated by the barber (who is using the scissors and blade), tailor, doctor or even by the fish monger?

But you are daily intimidated by the Private bus conductor and the driver, is not it?
So you are under this mini terrorism !!

Terrorism => TER + ROR + ISM

We can summarize the Key criteria of terrorism as follows;

  • Violence
  • Psychological impact and fear
  • Unlawfulness or illegitimacy
If you think about the definition of terrorism and the private bus industry of Sri Lanka, its not difficult to identify the terrorist nature of private bus industry.

In Sri Lanka, the moment you get into an private bus you are under the rule of terrorism !!!!

While you are in the bus, every movement of your action will be controlled by two terrorists namely the driver and the conductor.
"Wolves make hay when rabbits and goats are at play"
It all happening because the Sri Lankan society has lost its dignity and courage and thereby individuals in the society has been targeted for intimidation !!!

Have you ever think that in a bus there are at least 30 plus commuters (Most of the time it is 50 - 80 commuters) and still these two terrorists (conductor and driver) intimidate and control you in the bus.

Why is this happening. The society has been under terrorism and media and politicians had been dominated by terrorists and each individual in the society has lost its dignity.

Now major war against terrorism is winning and as a society and individuals, its time to overcome this fear psycho imposed by private bus mini terrorist mafia and fight back to win the right of dignity of commuting.

It is important to identify how these two mini terrorists take control of whole bunch of commuters. Its because its individuals against bunch of rabbits and goats!!!

People will give different reasons to hide their true fear for this mini terrorism, but the reality is you are feared and you have no strength against these two petty terrorists in the bus.

If you closely look at the tone of individual conductors you will find that they start impose fear on you by talking loudly and rudely.
"Dogs that bark, seldom bites."
If you overcome this initial fear, you are now actively fighting against this mini terrorism. Just never loose on them, they are trying to tight on you and it is your obligation to tight back on them.
“Always use the collective force to support individual force”
Its majority of commuters that should be in control and not these two mere crooks, and this is the plan;

Action plan for commuters:
1. Make sure that conductors are involved only in their due task which is issuing tickets.

  • Never allow the conductor to dominate over the commuters. Remember in a given bus there are at least 30 plus commuters to counter the conductor.
  • Whenever, you pay for the ticket and if there is due balance, always ask for the balance. Never allow the conductor to slip away without asking you that there is balance due.
  • Never allow the conductors to roam around the bus unless for good reason of issuing tickets. (Its commuters obligation to pay the money and get the ticket as soon as get into the bus so that conductors never required to go up and down the bus packing the commuters.)
  • Remember, in a bus its at most its two lines of standing commuters. Never give into the conductor’s command to stay in the middle. There is no middle row, space in the middle is for commuters to use when they get in/off the bus. Those standing commuters must by all mean make sure that individuals are not remain in the middle.

2. Make sure that drivers are involved only in their due task which is driving.

  • Never give the bus fair to the driver. Collecting money is not driver’s job. You have right to not to give money to the driver.
  • If the driver insists, just ask for the ticket, usually drivers do not have the tickets. If he is not issuing tickets (for the right amount) you have every right to not to give money to him.
  • Make sure drivers are not allowed to shout at the commuters demanding packing up the bus. First, gently reminder him that ‘Donkeys should not do interfere with the task of dogs’
  • If the bus is hanging unduly (‘kotanawa’) ring the bell and wake him up. If the driver get agitated use the collective force.

Action plan for the Minister:

1. Increase completion within the buses.

  • Multiple routes for a single road
    • When a given road has single route, buses in that route get monopoly. (eg: Route No:119 Maharagama-Dehiwala). The bus drivers knows that until next bus arrives (of the same route number), they can keep the bus idle in the bus halts. If a given road has multiple routes then each bus has to compete with buses with different route numbers.
    • Its best that even for a given route allow multiple destination points. This prevent monopoly of single route. The best example is 138 route where buses start/end from multiple cities though they are in a common route. Eg: Colombo -Maharagama, Kottawa, Homagama, etc.. Here Colombo-Maharagama buses have to compete with Colombo-Kottawa buses and vice versa. So they are not in the luxury to idle (‘kotanawa’) in the road and resulting improved service for commuters.
      Whereas, 120 route does not have that variety of multiple destinations (almost all the busses are Colombo-Kasbawa) and therefore, 120 route buses enjoy freedom to idle, they have competition only from another Colombo-Kasbawa bus and they are friends!! If you look at the congested load of commuters in a 120 route bus, you will feel the end result.
      Therefore, it is very important to form routes with multiple destinations even within the same route.
  • CTB buses should not be just another private bus!!!
    • If a CTB bus play as just another bus idling (‘kotanawa’), rude to the commuters, and over loading. Then it will be just another (terrorist) bus owned by the government.
    • If the private buses in a given route is idling, the CTB bus should not be idling and it should travel its normal spead, then the private bus has no option but to hurry too. If the CTB bus behaves just like another private bus and travel behind the idling private bus, the CTB bus will be just another bus playing the same role. If private busses are overloading, then CTB bus should overtake the crook and serve the commuters and not keep idling overloading just like another private bus.
    • The role of the CTB bus should be different. CTB bus should be to serve the public and to set standards for the private bus industry to follow.
    • Make CTB bus drivers and conductors polite and efficient.
    • Make the mission of CTB bus to serve the public and not to optimize profit.
    • Never allow CTB bus conductors to get bribe from private bus owners for their benefit.

2. More CTB buses to serve the public

3. Bus routes should not be to serve bus owners but for commuters.

For example Route number 138 comes to the junction near public library and less than 5 minute, it should be able to reach Fort via Hunupitiaya road, still it go round to town hall and travel extra miles to through Union place and ultimately reach Fort. Who care about the right of commuters who are coming to fort? Why on earth they are daily traveling round the town hall route? Why not have two routes for Maharagama-Townhall and Maharagama-Fort (directly through Hunupitya road). Its waste of time for the commuters that coming to Fort that spend to travel round the town hall each day. Its waste of time and money of the Sri Lankan work force !!!

ARE YOU READY TO IMPLEMENT THIS PLAN ANN ELIMINATE ANOTHER MINI TERRORISM MAFIA FROM OUR MOTHER LAND?

Political foxes and media crows

14 Aug 2007

Fox is neither strong nor smart animal. Fox is inherently feeble and funny animal with no genuine skills. Still foxes have evolved and remain in the jungle for eon.

The Sri Lankan political arena is never short of foxes. These political foxes survive through mere tactics and enchantments rather than true skills and abilities.

Media play a key role in the survival of these political foxes and their cubs.

Media can inflate a mere clown as a man with great sense of humor, a feeble as a man born for peace, a person without any real culture as a whole mark of multi cultural harmony.

These foxes who do not have any genuine skills or capabilities are most of the time cunning enough and financially and politically strong enough to manipulate so called 'common peoples voice' of the country.

These cunning politicians use different tactics to manipulate the mass media. Some of these politicians have ancestral media corporations both in print and electronic forms. Secondly, they have access to control the media through financing and invest on return basis, where the media businessman or company is promised its return after the politician grabs the power through public jugglery.

The third and more subtle but very wide and effectively used tactic is to buy so called individual 'free media' personals while they remain in the original media organization. This method has been very effectively and widely used. Good part of so called independent media personals comes under this category and they either get direct wages or indirect benefits in the form of scholarships and foreign tours and workshops. Most of these types of bribes are carried out by NGO's for sake of the politicians.

Life is easy for someone
shameless,
cunning as a crow,
backbiting and forward,
arrogant and corrupt,

but for someone who's constantly
scrupulous, cautious,
observant, sincere,
pure in his livelihood,
clean in his pursuits,
it's hard.
- Dhammapada (Malavagga)

It is evident that handful of eloquent media personals that play their 'independent presenter' role are later found as 'party organizers' for these political parties. Is this happened as a sudden unplanned transformation over 24 hours or is this an end result of long time political-media contract?

It all happening because these feeble, ineffective, unskillful foxes are striving for excel in the political arena, despite their inherent inabilities.

These corrupted media crows are not ashamed to call one that does not have a back bone and leadership qualities to fight against terrorism, separatism or insurgency as 'prince of peace' or 'gentleman politician'. These media personals are capable of transforming the white feather of a feeble person into an image of a pigeon for peace.

Most of these political ancestries have betrayed their religion and converted to get petty economical and political gains in the colonial period thereby loosing their national roots. But after the independence they are trying to pretend back as true nationalists to retain their power in the eyes of people's right of vote. These media personals can craftily transform this lack of national interest into a sugary coated word of 'politician with international support' though their short political history clearly shows that this so called international support is only for their own political, economical and military agenda and not for the benefit for this country or its people.

These foxy politicians have been playing their part in the SL politics for some time. Their task is highly dependent on the ignorance and short sight nature of the ordinary voters of the country.

The day people are enlightened and the true naked nature of these so called leaders are exposed, it marks the end of another political gambling or political drama in this country.

When the prince meet his limits..

It says that "Hand that cuddle is ruling the world". But what happens if the small one is cuddled by a servant or ayah of the family rather than the mother. This is the exact scene of most of the so called elite families in Sri Lanka.

A great leadership is not a result of random phenomena. In a bee hive, the queen bee is not a result of an egg from another queen bee or bee from ancestral family, but it is just another egg that is developed and fed up with special care and attention.

It is written in the history that the prince Gamunu was showing his intentions and love for the country in very young age and he spent good part of his youth among the common people of this country and not in the palace.

He learned his early lessons of how to fight with Elara from an elderly woman in a village and not from an official adviser to the palace.

It's a tragedy that most of the current princes are feed up on sausages and meal causes by Ayahs supported by 'Jack and Jill' type fairy tales imported from the west.

This unlistening man
matures like an ox.
His muscles develop,
his discernment not.
- Dhammapada (Jara Wagga)

When these princes come to the youth age, they are thrown into the political arena which they considered as their heritage. In most of the cases, it is not for a Pradeshiya Sabha (local government body) or similar type of local development body that they got exposed first, but straight into national politics using the money and ancestral power of the family.

Usually they get strong electorates of the party to enter into the parliament and it's a rosy way into the national politics. Then they get gradual promotions up into high ranks in the party through favoritism and without testing their real character and leadership.

It is at very later stage that they met with some sort of competition firstly within the party itself and later when he is competing for the top post either in the form of presidency or prime minister in modern terminology, where personality plays a big part of the game.

Until this point, the prince can use his financial power to crush his opponents and he can use his positional power and appoint fluent and educated campaigners to address the common people on his behalf.

There is the point in his political journey, for the first time, the prince himself has to face the real music.
The prince has marched in rosy way and it is now too late to rectify and shape his personality and character.

This is where political and economical power meets its limits.

It's the power of controlling the media that comes to rescue the prince.

That is why these privileged political clans always keep good share of power in media institutions. Either they directly involve or control these institutions or they have the access to throne to control it for their liking.

The pageant queen of post independence era

11 Aug 2007

From 1815 to 1948, it was the king of Britain which ruled this country. A Governor appointed by the king governed us on behalf of the king.

In 1948, people celebrated the independence and thought that in the future we will be having our own leaders or prime minister / president in modern terms. At that time, people of this country, would have never thought that we would ever bring another king or queen from Britain to rule this country again.

Multiple personality disorder and JVP

10 Aug 2007

Overview
Multiple personality disorder is a condition in which two or more distinct identities or personalities alternately take control in the same person.

What are the signs and symptoms of the condition?
The following symptoms may indicate multiple personality disorder:
Two or more distinct personalities exist within one person.
Each personality has its own way of thinking about things and relating to others.
At least two of the identities take control of the person's behavior at different times.
The person is unable to recall important personal information.

Reference: http://health.discovery.com/encyclopedias/illnesses.html?article=2909

In 1971 JVP and Rohana Wijeweera believed that they could oust the existing government by couple dozen of guns (Gulkatas) and several hundreds of keen and loyal (through brain washed) members.
In 1988/89 period history repeated but and this time its more disorganize violance with lack of direction and aim and it all halted with the death of their leader.
Confusion of goals and perfection of means seems, in my opinion, to characterize our age.
- Albert Einstein
They came back strongly in democracy in the last general election and secured 37 seats in (Currently UNP Ranil fraction has only 44 seats).
JVP is only 7 seats away from becoming the main opposition party in the parliament.

Still, they have very big hurdle to become the big gun in SL politics because JVP as a party having Multiple personality disorder syndrome !

It all started because JVP was formed as a Marxism party. Still they love to call themselves Marxists all though in practice there are no Marxist governments on earth. Even China and Cuba is opening their economy. JVP knows the reality, still they do not have guts to face the reality because they are unduly fear of loosing power among university students and trade unions.

That is why they are fear of entering into government and play active role in the government. However interestingly they never looked to have this fear when they join the CBK government and took up ministerial portfolios. That is the nature of "Multiple personality disorder syndrome" at times distinct personalities over run the other. There is no rational for JVP who took cabinet portfolios in CBK government to refuse to enter into Mahinda Rajapaksa government. This government by all means is progressive than CBK's government. Not a single government institution has been privatized and lot of benefits and subsidiary are being given to lower income class , farmers etc. Still JVP is fear to enter into the government like a dog having hydrophobia.

This government is doing good work in the war against terrorism and JVP pretend to be supporting it. However they are very selective in their statements.

They are using Patriotic National Movement and Manel Mal Movement to issue statements supporting the war against terrorism, but hardly ever use JVP official media statements and media briefings for that.

Again the ghost of Marxism play the part. Maxism accept the right to separate home land. That is why after Kremlin's power collapsed, USSR was brokan into large number of seperate countries.

More vociferous Marxist like Vikramabahu Karunarathna openly admit these facts while JVP is playing its double role.

JVP is struggling to be good Marxist and petriotic at the same time in vain.

It all depends on if JVP has enough maturity and leadership to come out of Multiple personality disorder syndrome and be a productive political party in Sri Lanka and serve this country.

Now we can see that multiple personalities are emerging for different key leaders simultaneously as well.

We can see that only Wimal Weeravansa attending to meetings of Patriotic National Movement while people like Lal Kantha who try to behave more Marxist than even Rohana Wijeweera hardly praise the government for the successful war against terrorism.

The longer it take time to come out of this issue as a party we will see more and more break away fractions and individuals (eg: Nandana Gunathilaka) from JVP !!!

The 'Hanuma' of modern era

9 Aug 2007

There are milestones in the history that change the path of the country.

1948, 1956 and 1972 marked very important millstone in SL politics.

But it was 1977 that was the beginning of very unfortunate path which got two peaks at 1983 (communal black clashes) and 1988 (JVP insurgency).

JR boast of the powers of being the executive president of socialist republic of Sri Lanka. But this emerald island got the flame of ethnic violance since 1983 and still its burning.

Similarly JR allowed to spread the flame of terrorism, unrest and cultural deserting.

He allowed Tamil terrorism to peak, for which we are still paying the price.

On the other hand, he allowed second JVP insurgency to reap and over 20,000 Sinhala youth paid the price in their lives.

When JR left politics in 1989, he failed to crush either LTTE terrorism or JVP insurgency (which was ultimately crushed by Mr. R. Premadasa) and Indian army had been landed in our mother land. The culture and values of the society was corroded.

In short, both north and south was burning.

What else this old fox could not have done to our mother land? He did all the curse and retired as atypical politician without much of a buzz.

According to 'Ramayanaya', Hanuma has burnt the Helabimma (Sri Lanka) by spreading flames using its tail.

Interestingly, very few seem to be interested or contemplate on these facts. This is a country where thought of the people is regulated by the media which in turn controlled by the political parties.

So no wonder why the 'Hanuma' of the modern era is still having the inflated image of professionalism after dragging this country into flame of terrorism and misery.

Ranil, JHU and the Benz saga

7 Aug 2007

Background to the scene:

  • The Jathika Hela urumaya (JHU) has become the most trusted and reliable ally for Mr Rajapaksa. Interestingly, the government's most successful (and popular) tasks, namely, war against LTTE terrorist and the anti drug/liquor movement ('Mathata Thitha") has been triggered by JHU.
  • This justifies the fact that UNP and Ranil is madly targeting JHU monks in the recent past.
  • There is a good tendency of patriotic UNP members crossing over into the government (Keheliya, Karu, Hemakumara, etc).
  • This has increased the non patriotic (NGO/pro separatists) density within UNP.
  • Mr.Ravi karunanayaka (a non Buddhist) is the master mind behind this drama(he has enough money to invest on drama by earnings on SATHOSA privatization deals etc..).
  • Recently, UNP got the company of two more drama directors namely Mangala and SriPathy whom were introduced or upheld by the witch lady CBK (who is interestingly married to a famous film actor) :-).
  • So we can expect more drama's in the coming months.
Story behind the scene:
Those who voted for JHU never mind this. Because all those who voted for JHU had national interests and not petty selfish interests. So JHU is not funded by corrupt businessmen. Still JHU need funds to operate as a political party. This is the most genuine way of raising money for the JHU.
I highly support JHU's decision to utilize money by selling/hiring their vehicles.
Those corrupted politicians and their allayed businessmen have gone mad that if this tendency continues all those are going to lost their power.
They are trying to play JHU into the hand of corrupted businessmen by depriving their only source of income (the salary and other funds) . (i.e. try to make it another political party rely on corrupted businessmen)
So they are hitting hard, but in vain !!! because the main presenter of the scenes is mere feeble clown named Ranil.

Power in balance

6 Aug 2007

The balance of power in Parliament (As at 6th August 2007)

Government
PA => 65
HU => 08
EPDP => 01
UNP (First batch) => 06
UNP (Democratic Fraction) => 17
MC (Batch 1) => 04
MC (Batch 2) => 06
CWC (Batch 1) => 03
Upcountry Peoples Front (UPF) => 02
TOTAL =>112

Opposition
UNP => 44
TNA => 22
Mr.Mangala Samaraweera => 01
Mr.Sripathi Sooriarachhi => 01
CWC => 05
Ven.Uduwe Dammaloka => 01
JVP => 37
Mr.Nandana Gunathilaka => 01
TOTAL =>112
The above table is prepared in the order of loyalty to
the group.

Interesting Facts:
  • Almost all the parties other than TNA, UPF and EPDP(only one seat, so no fractions :-) ) have their members fractioned in the parliment.
  • If 7 more UNP MP's cross over to the goverment, Mr. Ranil Wickramasingha is going to his post of 'Opposition Leader'.
  • There is two MP's named Ven.Uduwe Dammaloka AND Mr.Nandana Gunathilaka who are dead silent as MP's.
Pros:
  • The Jathika Hela urumaya (JHU) has become the most trusted and reliable ally for Mr Rajapaksa. Interestingly, the government's most successful tasks, namely, war against LTTE terrorist and the anti drug/liquor movement ('Mathata Thitha") has been triggered by JHU. This justifies the fact that UNP and Ranil is madly targeting JHU monks in the recent past.
  • There is a good tendency that all the garbage from PA is throwing away into the UNP (opposition) camp. This will strengthen the government as a unit because there will be less stab in back attacks within the cabinet.
  • There is equally good tendency of patriotic UNP members crossing over into the government. Its always a good deal to take true patriotic MP's for selfish and short sighted politicians.
  • Some of the crossed over UNP MP's (Mr. Keheliya Rabukwalla, Mr. Bandula Gunawardana) are playing very active role in the government. In some cases they are doing better job than some PA ministers.
  • Since JVP is playing double faced role pretending to be supporting the government but not actively involved in any sort of development work, they are fast loosing popularity and the JVP vote bank is definitely going to erode back into PA in the next general election.
Cons:
  • Interestingly all the UNP members crossed over to government are Sinhala Buddhists! This has increased the non Buddhist density within UNP. Now UNP is fully controlled by anglican or catholic MP's lead by Ravi, Joshop, Johnston,John, Jayalath. So we can expect more and more attack on Buddhism and JHU from UNP because its now predominantly Catholic.
  • When UNP members cross over to the government as groups, there is a risk of either corrupted or rejected MP's also clinch into the government. (eg: G.L. Pieris)
  • Muslim Congress (MU) is not at all a trusted political party with national interests. MU only has interests on (trade/smuggling) and for some extent on racist expansion of so call Muslim regions. So they may any time join with UNP to form a UNP government because UNP is the ultimate choice for all the opportunists !
  • Only Mangala and Sripathy crossed over to unite with UNP, there are still federal/NGO ghosts introduced or upheld by CBK within the government. They are at unrest because they are brainwashed politicians who are more than willing to work for evil forces of international community or NGOs. We need to keep an eye on people like Dilan Perera.
Beside all these pros and cons there is one big boost for the government. It is the Ranil factor.
He is behaving like a real nut clown that he is never going to overrun Mahinda in personality, leadership or anything!!

The factual biography of Ranil Wickramasinghe

Leadership by Ancestry
- Wickremasinghe's father was Esmond Wickremasinghe, an ex-Samasamaja (Socialist) activist and supremo of the Lake House group of newspapers.
- The Wickremasinghes were an established part of the upper class Colombo Anglican elite.
- His paternal uncle Lakshman Wickremasinghe was later to be a much respected Bishop of the Church of Sri Lanka.
- He was a nephew of J.R. Jayawardene, later President of Sri Lanka. J R was notorious for his greed for power (which he got only at very old age)

=> Fact: Ranil just as his uncle JR are Anglican catholic by birth.

-Wickremasinghe was appointed by J.R Jayawardana (whom Ranill is the nephew) as the chief organizer of the Kelaniya Parliamentary seat in the mid 1970s but was later installed as the chief organizer of the Biyagama seat which he won in the 1977 Parliamentary Elections.
- At the very entry in to parliment, he was soon promoted by J R to the post of Minister of Youth Affairs and Employment which made him the youngest cabinet minister of Sri Lankan history to date.

The first lesson:
From his uncle J R, Ranil got the first lesson of the hunger for power and art of retaining power at any cost, even at the cost of motherland.

Darling of Mr. R. Premadasa
- Mr. Premadasa was well known for greed for power and he set aside true born leadership like Mr. Atulathmudali, and Mr. Gamini Dissanayake and vested the power of key roles to puppets that he can manipulate easily.
- His first choice was Mr. D.B Wijetunga and the next obvious choice was Mt Ranil Wickremasinghe whom was appointed as the Minister of Industry and Leader of the House.

Lession #2 learned: Being dumb and get the windfall
- When the UNP true born leadership giants including Lalith and Gamini brought forward the motion to impeach president Premadasa who was leading Sri lank to dictatorship at that time, it was Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe who did not have enough guts to question his leader’s misuse of power that remained the obedient servant to Mr. Premadasa.
- He learned his second lesson of cunningness and greed for power from Mr. Premadasa during the motion of impeach.

Leadership by Others Deaths:
- Mr. Lalith Atulathmudali was known to be a true born leader with national interests. He had successfully leaded the Wadamarachhi battle against LTTE (which was ultimately abandoned by order of aging fox JR).
- Unlike Sri Lankan politicos, LTTE always work on a long term plan. So LTTE terrorists saw the future threat by true born leader Mr. Lalith Atulathmudali, who fought fearlessly against iron fist of Premadasa dictatorship, brutally assassinated him.
- Once the immerging movement of Lalith-Gamini was halted, the fascist LTTE targeted the next major threat Mr. Premadasa himself. Mr Premadasa was assassinated on May 1, 2003 while he was inspecting May Day fared.
- There came the chance for Ranil to get into the post of Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. He got the wind fall due to the death penalty by fascist terrorists on the hard earned leaders of UNP.

Prime Minister by Constitution (not by votes)
- On May 01, 1993 Wickremasinghe was sworn in as Prime Minister after President Ranasinghe Premadasa was brutally assassinated, allegedly by the Tamil Tigers.
- In the 1994 Parliamentary Elections, the UNP lost to Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga's People's Alliance (PA) which ousted Wickremasinghe from the Prime Ministership.

Lossing the Post of Opposition Leader:
- Ranil lost the race to be the Opposition Leader by 2 votes to fellow UNP member Gamini Dissanayake who just re-joined the party. This gave Gamini Dissanayake the default leadership of the party and made him the Presidential nominee of the UNP.

LTTE Terrorists to Rescue Ranil Again
The UNP was showing great spirit and strength under Gamini Dissanayake, when he too was assassinated by the Tamil Tigers.
- Gamini Dissanayake's widowed wife Srima became the replacement candidate of the UNP and secured only 35% of the vote, losing to Chandrika Kumaratunga in all the Parliamentary seats in Sri Lanka apart from Mahiyangana.

- Afterwards Wickremasinghe was reappointed by default as the Opposition Leader as well as the UNP leader. (By this time LTTE has completely eradicated the UNP leadership including Premadasa, Lalith Atulathmudali, Gamini Dissanayaka, Ranjan Wijayarathna, Weerasingha Mallimaracchi etc. which pave the way for even a muppet to retain the leadership of UNP)

I am a leader by default, only because nature does not allow a vacuum. ~ Bishop Desmond Tutu

Opposition (Leader) Under CBK Goverment (1994-1999)

- CBK came to power with the bags of bogus pledges. Almost all of those promises were not met, yet CBK had a happy and corrupt time exploiting the power at the mercy of feeble opposition under the (leadership) of Ranil Wickremasinghe.
- In 1999 President Kumaratunga called the Presidential Elections a year prior to its expiration in the hope of regaining and fortifying power in order to amend the constitution.
- Wickremesinghe was nominated as the UNP candidate.

LTTE terrorists attack on CBK Foiled (No windfall for Ranil this time)
- President Kumaratunga was attacked by the Tamil Tigers during her presidential campaign in an attempt on her life in which she lost her right eye.
- In the election held 2 days later (December 21, 1999), Chandrika Kumaratunga received 51% of the total votes to be re-elected for her second and final term. The gap between Wickremasinghe and Kumaratunga was approximately 700,000 votes (6% of the valid votes). Kumaratunga was sworn in for her second term on December 22, 1999.
- After the loss of the 1999 Presidential Elections, Wickremesinghe unsuccessfully led his UNP through the 2000 Parliamentary Elections again losing out to the PA.

People had No Option But to Oust CBK
- In 2001, Sri Lanka underwent severe losses in the war front and only managed a highly unsatisfactory -1% economic growth rate, the first ever negative growth in the country's history.
- By the end of the year a some members of the PA government led by S. B. Dissanayake a senior Minister of the PA government, and Deputy Finance Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris left the PA to join the UNP thus destabilizing the Parliamentary composition which led Kumaratunga to call for fresh elections.

UNP Under Ranil Won The 2001 Elction at Last(Only Win)
Ali-koti (UNP-LTTE) accord
Ranil used all his tricks in the 2001 election for greed of power.
It was a popular fact that UNP lead by Ranil had a secretly agreed upon a ceasefire agreement negotiation LTTE through his international NGO links.
- During the campaign Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe is seen traveling to political meetings all round the country in a ordinary bus decorated with UNP slogans and color.
While all the other political leaders were under tight security due to life threats from LTTE, Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe seemed to be having no threats at all.
- The United National Front (UNF), formed with the PA dissidents, the Sri lanka Muslim Congress and the Ceylon Workers' Congress assumed power in the 2001 Parliamentary Elections held on December 10.
- One of his first acts was to sign a ceasefire agreement with the LTTE rebels saying its a prerequisite for start peace talks.
- For the first time in the history Ranil’s UNP government officially accepted so called “LTTE held territory” which is the biggest trait by a SL leader.
- LTTE was allowed to infiltrate into government held Jafna.
- LTTE which was cornered after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi got much needed international recognition once again.
- Wickremasinghe came under fiery criticism and was called a traitor by many, after a police officer, commonly perceived as a Wickramasinghe ally, exposed an elite Sri Lankan army LRRP unit who were engaged in operations against the LTTE, on the accusastion that the unit was deployed to assassinate Wickramasinghe.
- When LTTE was hunting members of intelligence burro of Sri Lankan army Ranil was dead silence.

Ranil Loose Again by People's Will
- 2004 Parliamentary Elections held on April 02 Ranil Wickremasinghe's UNF lost governmental office.
- Having won the election held on 2 April 2004 the UPFA formed a government with Mahinda Rajapaksa as prime minister.

Presidency election 2005
- Mahinda Rajapaksa, then Prime Minister, was appointed as the Presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. It was a real battle of a true born leader against CBK ancestry in SLFPitself.
- As usual leadership bankrupt (rather leadership slain by LTTE) UNP had no choice but to elect Ranil as their candidate.

Guerrilla Marketing Campign Again:
A well known anti-Buddhist businessman like Mr. Lalith Kothalawala openly campaigned ($) for Ranil. Sirasa and MTV media networks which are owned by Mharaja organization openly supported UNP campaign.
- However this time, It was a different opponent to tackle. Mr. Rajapakse is a true born leader having history of genuine faith with common people of Sri Lanka.
- Rajapakse was known to be a person having both the feet in the earth with national interests held above all.
Also, all the patriotic movements including JHU and JVP rallied with Rajapakse which made Ranil’s 'fooling the people' guerilla marketing campaign null and void.
- Rajapaksa defeated Wickremasinghe by 190,000 votes and took office as President on November 19, 2005.

Ranil's current role as the 'Leader of Opposition"
- One of the slogan of Ranil’s election campaign was “Hakiyawata Rakiyawak” , A job for the qualifications.
Now Ranil has been enjoying the post of ‘Leader of opposition” for more than 20 years with more than couple of dozens of election defeats.
- Despite all his cunning tricks and guerilla marketing campaigns, Ranil is yet to be the leader (President) of Sri Lanka.
- He is waiting again for his next windfall for try to grab presidency.
He may try to direct the wind for his luck by pulling Mr. Rajapaksa’s initiative to uproot terrorism from Sri Lanka.

In war, three quarters turns on personal character and relations; the balance of manpower and materials counts only for the remaining quarter.
